Saturday 1 November: 12:00pm - 1:00pm

Centre of African Studies, Library 3rd floor, Alison Richard Building7 West Road, CB3 9DT

Event: 213

Dr Benson Mulemi, a medical anthropologist at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, will give a talk on stigma, spoilt identity and cancer rehabilitation in Kenya. Cancer therapy and rehabilitative technologies act as reminders of the loss of identity and pre-morbidity personhood. The talk will examine patients and survivors’ perspectives on their body and social function, and identity, drawing on hospital ethnography in Kenya. http://www.african.cam.ac.uk/
