Ben joins us after completing his recent MA African Studies at SOAS, University of London. There, he wrote his dissertation about language attitudes in Lubumbashi, DRC, and how Swahili and French interact with one another in daily life. He also brings with him experience of working on the continent in Tanzania, and Ghana. Ben is interested in how cultural studies can help us break outdated stereotypes and shine light on lesser known issues that our world faces. Raising the voices of socio-economically marginalised individuals is of particular interest to him, especially through gender justice and youth empowerment and engagement action. He has past experience in group facilitation, content creation, communications, policy development, qualitative research and fundraising.
